At first glance, Mathilde Oscar's photographs seem like painted portraits created by a hyperrealist artist. The secret to this French photographer's images lies in carefully controlled lighting, the use of specialized lenses, and digital processing. However, the primary role is, of course, played by talent, of which this woman has no shortage.





Mathilde Oscar was born in Paris in 1980. While still in school, she became fascinated with painting and planned to become an artist. And so it turned out – Mathilde received an art education and successfully worked in her field. But everything changed in 2013, when she first picked up a professional camera.



At first, Oskar used photography in preparation for new paintings. She captured images and objects, which she then transferred to canvas. But over time, working with the camera became so engrossing that painting took a back seat.



Despite having retired from professional painting, Matilda Oskar continues to be inspired by the works of Romantic and Neoclassical masters. This is clearly evident in her photographs, which are difficult to distinguish from paintings. Oscar loves classical and biblical themes, but she reinterprets them and adds modern elements to her photographs.



Each of Oscar's photographs requires careful selection of the subject, model, and setting. Sometimes, to create a series of several images, Matilda and her assistants work tirelessly for weeks. But their efforts are worth it—all of the French photographer's works can be considered impeccable.



It's difficult to call Oscar's photographs masterpieces. The artist herself prefers the definition: unique visual art. Matilda boldly utilizes the capabilities of modern photo editing software and speaks openly about it. In her opinion, any available means are good for achieving a creative idea.
