Zaha Hadid Architects designed the Meixihu International Culture & Arts Center in Changsha, China. The project includes a Museum of Contemporary Art and a 1,800-seat theater with a multifunctional hall. The architectural language of the complex is defined by pedestrian routes that intertwine to connect with neighboring streets.
Providing city views of the nearby lake and access to parks and walking trails, the ensemble consists of three separate cultural institutions, creating external courtyards for outdoor events and sculpture exhibitions.
Hunan Province's largest and most comprehensive cultural center is directly connected to the Changsha MRT line.
Situated on historic trade routes across China, Changsha continues its tradition as an important communications center.
