Unique photographs of 1940s America in Kodachrome colors (52 photos)

We imagine photographs from that era as exclusively black and white. These works by American freelance photographer Robert Yarnall Richie are from the archives of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Richie worked in advertising and industrial photography, working for major publishing houses and various American companies.





His archive contains a large number of works dedicated to the US oil industry and aviation. The latter topic interested Richie most, as he held a pilot's license and loved flying. Some of the photographs were taken on Kodachrome color film.

The Lockheed Model 12 Electra Junior is an eight-seat passenger jet (two pilots and six passengers) produced since the late 1930s for small airlines.



It was one of the first "business jets" – aircraft purchased by private companies to transport their top executives and managers.
