An intimate photo project about how we move when we sleep together (40 photos)
Paul Maria Schneggenburger has always been fascinated by human sleep. "It's an unconscious state, and scientists haven't yet figured out what happens," the photographer says. Early in his career, he photographed sleeping people wherever he saw them: on park benches, on trains, at parties.
In 2010, he came up with the idea of taking six-hour exposures of sleeping people. He first photographed himself, then couples, families, and anyone else he could persuade to come to his studio in Vienna. The intimate and surreal photographs in this series are taken on black sheets in a dimly lit room.
"The Dream of the Beloved" is an ongoing photographic series. Schneggenburger invites anyone interested to participate in the project. ![]()
