Richard Silver: world landmarks in unusual focus (33 photos)
Richard Silver, known for his vertical church panoramas, spent nearly seven years and $35,000 to create this stunning portrait of our planet. During this time, he traveled extensively and visited most of the world's must-see destinations, including the legendary Greek Acropolis and the Stone Heads of Easter Island, the famous Brooklyn Bridge in New York, and the Houses of Parliament in London.
Despite the abundance of photographs of world-famous landmarks, Richard has managed to present them in a completely new light. Thanks to the tilt-shift photo editing technique, the focus shifts toward the viewer, making the buildings appear miniature. Thus, the Eiffel Tower or Machu Picchu appear as miniature versions of real buildings.
Richard Silver says:
"In this photo series, you're traveling with me.
Most people can recognize the places I photograph. When they look at my work and smile, it means seven years of work have been well spent.
Some people don't believe me, even when I say it's a real photograph with real people. The most common question I get is, 'Is this a model or a real building?' You won't believe it, but sometimes it's quite difficult to prove that I wasn't photographing a miniature version of, say, the Pyramids of Giza."
Richard's work is on permanent display at the LaGrange Gallery in the United States.
