Parisa Damandan is an Iranian photographer and art historian. She holds a degree in photography from Tehran University and published a photo book, "Photo Portraits from Isfahan: How Faces Change." The book illustrates the history of Isfahan in the early 20th century through the faces of people whose portraits the photographer collected over the course of 10 years.

These photographs were difficult to find because the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979 meant the forced wearing of the hijab for all women and a ban on any images of uncovered heads. As a result, many photo studios were completely destroyed, and numerous archives containing priceless negatives were left gathering dust in attics.

Each frame is an essay on the development of the photographic portrait in Isfahan, the social characteristics of photography in Iran, and the power of the gaze.
