They have souls too: a photographer takes portraits of homeless people (20 photos)
Internationally recognized and award-winning street photographer Pedro Oliveira currently lives and works in Portland. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Pedro moved to the United States in 2012 to pursue his education. 
In June 2015, he began a series of photographic essays about people on the West Coast of the United States. The photographer was interested in ordinary people like you and me, who also had plans and dreams, but for one reason or another found themselves on the streets or in homeless shelters.
"The idea behind my project is quite simple: I approach them and introduce myself, listen to their stories, and share some of my own. Then, if they give me permission, I publish their portraits and our conversation. The goal of my photography project is to draw as much attention as possible to the thin line that separates homeless people from society. I hope to break down this massive social wall that makes some people invisible to others."
