A project called "Belted Up and Survived" has been launched in New Zealand, collecting stories of people who were in accidents and survived thanks to seat belts. The portraits feature real people who suffered in plane crashes, whose injuries and damage were recreated using makeup.





These shocking portraits demonstrate the life-saving power of seat belts. In serious accidents, they often leave massive bruises like these—such is the price of saving lives. It's not hard to imagine how these accidents would have ended if the people wearing them hadn't been wearing them.



The project featured real people who survived car accidents, and their injuries were recreated by the SFF company PROFX.

"A seat belt actually leaves a mark," explained emergency medicine doctor Natasha McKay, who also participated in the project. "They'll save your life, but they'll leave a mark to demonstrate how they did it."

The initiative to create these portraits came from the New Zealand Transport Agency. The project's creators wanted to use this campaign to reduce road fatalities. Statistics show that up to 90% of road traffic fatalities occur because drivers and passengers are not wearing seat belts.



The portraits were displayed on billboards across the country, and the project's subjects recorded their emotional stories of survival on video. The project encouraged people to share their own stories, demonstrating the importance of safety.
