American portrait photographer Brock Sanders is one of the few contemporary artists who remains faithful to film. His photographs are characterized by simple compositions and spartan settings, yet they leave no one indifferent. Sanders is a proponent of natural female beauty, so the women in his photographs don't dazzle with heavy makeup or pretentious poses. They are taken straight from life and captivate with their naturalness.

Brock Sanders began taking photographs in elementary school. At 10, his parents gave him a simple Diana film camera for his birthday, and Sanders has been shooting ever since. Over the years, he's used many different cameras, but he's never abandoned good old film technology.

But Sanders didn't start out with portraiture, but with landscape photography. He was born and raised in California, on the Pacific coast, and most of his early works are dedicated to the mighty element.

Sanders is convinced that film photographs are alive, and it's hard to disagree with him. Looking at his portraits, you can tell they're of the girls from the next building, captured casually, without preparation.

But behind every Sanders photo is painstaking work, as film is unforgiving. Brock recommends that aspiring photographers carry a camera with them everywhere. He believes in shooting as often as possible, and it doesn't matter if no one appreciates your work. Instead, you'll develop your own style, which will become a solid foundation for future success.
