Information about Pirosmani was mainly collected after his death. He was born into a simple Christian family, which in ancient times moved to live in Shulaveri. After the death of his parents, Pirosmani moved to live in Tbilisi. As a child, I always showed great interest in drawing and drew a lot. I did not receive any special arts education. In the 1880s, with the self-taught G. Zaziashvili, they opened a workshop and accepted orders for posters. From 1890-1894 he worked as a conductor on the railway, then tried himself in trade. In the 19th-20th centuries he worked in dukans (dukans were the name of canteens, and today there are several of these in Tbilisi) and, according to their orders, he designed posters, portraits and photographs. Until the end of his life, he was never able to get out of poverty. The Georgian community of artists helped him from time to time. But sadly, Pirosmani died alone, and his grave remained unknown.
