Josephine Linggar is an Indonesian artist, well-known in her home country and abroad. Her works can be seen in exhibitions and private collections in Indonesia, China, Japan, Vietnam, India, Canada, and the United States.



Josephine Linggar was born in 1943 in a village on the island of Java. She grew up amidst the riot of tropical colors and the beautiful rituals of her people.



The artist began painting in her youth, but the world only learned about her in 1994. Then, at 50, Linggar held her first solo exhibition in Geneva.



Josephine Linggar has currently exhibited in over 50 countries worldwide. Her paintings are highly prized by collectors and are sold at auction.



The main motif of this Indonesian artist's work is Indonesian women. Her subjects include peasant women, city dwellers, and traditional dancers. Linggar skillfully uses the interplay of light and shadow to convey mood. To enhance the effect, the artist uses sepia and rich red tones.
