The Naked Truth: Unusual Nudes by Artist Viktor Lyapkalo (15 works)
It's well known that most artists extol beauty. Even those who consider themselves hyperrealists prefer the ideal female body. But there are exceptions. The artist Viktor Lyapkalo prefers to avoid embellishment. He paints women as they are, and their emphasized imperfections have their own charm.
Viktor Aleksandrovich Lyapkalo was born in 1956 in the city of Ukhta, Komi ASSR. He began painting while still in school, preferring portraits and cityscapes. In 1978, he graduated from the Saratov Art School, after which he immediately enrolled in the painting department of the I. E. Repin Institute of Fine Arts in Leningrad.
After receiving his diploma as an artist and teacher in 1987, Viktor Lyapkalo actively pursued his creative work. His paintings, which for various reasons had not been exhibited until Perestroika, proved highly sought after. The artist began participating in exhibitions and soon became known not only in his homeland but also in Germany, Holland, Belgium, the USA, Japan, and other countries.
Today, Viktor Lyapkalo's paintings are sold at auctions and can be found in galleries and private collections around the world. Nude connoisseurs are captivated by the artist's unusual approach to work. It can be said that the gradation of his art ranges widely from the beautiful to the hideous.
Lyapkalo's models are far from modern standards of beauty. In his paintings, they are just as they are in life, with all their strengths and weaknesses. Most of the women in the master's paintings are plump. When asked why he chooses these particular models, Lyapkalo replies that it's the Slavic standard of beauty. He jokes that "a beloved body should be abundant" and continues to extol massive hips and impressive breasts.
Lyapkalo also always has a wonderful sense of humor. The author doesn't mock his subjects; he simply makes bold jokes. Viktor Alexandrovich often pokes fun at himself. The thin man with a mustache and glasses, seen in many of his paintings, is the author himself.
