Where the Roads Divert: Aerial Photography by Peter Andrew
In this issue, you'll see a stunning set of aerial photographs of Texas highway interchanges. Canadian photographer Peter Andrew searches for and photographs the most complex highway interchanges on Google Earth. He then flies to the marked locations in a Cessna plane and photographs them.
Here's what the photographer himself says about his project: "I was drawn to these structures because they're hard to miss and ubiquitous in most Western cities. Every day, traffic flows along these concrete highways, like blood flows through arteries. These roads are like the arteries of the city's circulatory system. I love watching the movement of cars, especially from the air, above all this moving mass. I carefully observe the traffic, the terrain, the surrounding architecture, all the little details. My interest lies in finding the differences between them. Some areas appear chaotic from above, while others are neatly and symmetrically arranged. This series of photos highlights interchanges found on Texas highways.
