40-year-old Mi lost his arms after a high-voltage electric shock in 2003. During the year he spent recuperating at home, he didn't neglect himself, but tried to eat and dress himself using only his legs.

Later, he decided to learn a craft to earn a living. He noticed the art of dough sculpting, which is popular in his hometown during festivals. Friends introduced Mi to a master dough sculptor, who, although he hesitated, agreed to take Mi on as an apprentice.

Initially, it took Mi a whole day to make a simple rose from dough. After rigorous practice, he can now make a figurine in five to seven minutes. Later, for convenience, he switched to clay. In 2007, Mi left his native Shangqiu and began selling clay sculptures on the streets of major cities.

To earn more money, he rarely returns home during the holidays. Mi supports a family of five and helps his three children go to school.

"I'm happy to see my children going to school; all the hard work is nothing compared to that," he said.
