The artist makes incredibly realistic sculptures of pets from wood (9 photos)
Gerard Mas is a sculptor from Barcelona who creates absolutely incredible, very realistic sculptures of animals made of wood
Wide wooden slabs in his hands gradually turn into dogs and cats, which are difficult to distinguish from real ones at first glance. To add color to his creations, Mas burns the surface of the wood, giving it a deep charcoal color. The only thing that reveals the lifelessness of the pets is their immobility on their pedestals, which are an inseparable part of the sculpture.
Mas is impeccable in creating works that invite the viewer to visual play and open interpretation. His sculptures are playful, humorous and strikingly naturalistic. For example, a statue of a French bulldog named Guardian prompts humorous comments about the size of these dogs and their involvement in the type of guard dogs. Or a Siamese cat labeled "Schrödinger's Cat" refers to the famous thought experiment of physicist Erwin Schrödinger.
