The entire collection was recently auctioned off at Hansons Richmond in London. The most sought-after lot was a color lithograph signed by the genius.
The anonymous man was sorting through his belongings in preparation for a move abroad after retirement and stumbled upon a series of "funny" drawings.
The entire collection was recently auctioned off at Hansons Richmond (London) for almost 24,000 euros. The most popular lot was a colour lithograph signed by Dali, depicting nude bodies, which sold for €6,000.
"This was an amazing find that attracted phenomenal interest from people all over the world. The lithographs were bought by bidders from the UK, Europe and the US. We are delighted for those who were lucky enough to acquire these works, and for our client," says Chris Kirkham, deputy director of London auction house Hansons Richmond.
The expert added that he came across the find during a visit to one of his clients, who asked to evaluate antiques in the house.
"A collection of surrealist lithographs was found in the garage. No one had guessed about this for the last 50 years," the auction employee added.
Salvador Dalí (1904-1989) was a famous Spanish surrealist artist from Catalonia. He received his art education in Madrid. In 1929, he joined the surrealist group and soon became its main representative. He is considered one of the most prolific artists of the 20th century, whose works are distinguished by technical mastery and bizarre images. Dalí's work covers painting, sculpture, cinema, graphic art, animation, fashion and photography.
