New York Street Photography (15 photos)
Photographer Carrie Boretz
From 1975 to 1998, photographer and photo editor Carrie Boretz breathlessly explored a metropolis teeming with conflict, danger, and tenderness. Now she's releasing a book filled with street chronicles of her adventures in New York City.
Carrie Boretz's collection of street photographs lay untouched for years, but now she has unpacked the memories and is preparing to publish a collection of her extraordinary black-and-white images of New York.
In an interview with The New York Times, Boretz said she never chased sensationalism. She observed the city and its inhabitants from a place of vulnerability. She was drawn to the small details that would have escaped most observers. It may have been a period when people had few values, but Boretz's work is heartfelt and seems to capture something incomprehensible, eternal, and precious, hidden in the city that never sleeps.
