Photographer captured a fight between a heron and a snake (7 photos)
In the US, a snake tried to fight off a heron. A nature lover captured the fight between the two predators.
Florida resident Marcos Rodriguez works as an engineer, but enjoys photographing wildlife. In late February, he was walking with a camera through Everglades National Park in Florida. Unexpectedly for himself, he witnessed a fight between a heron and a snake. The great blue heron caught a Florida striped heron, a non-venomous snake from the colubrid family. The bird was about to have its lunch when the snake suddenly fought back and wrapped itself around its neck and beak.
This rare moment was captured by a photographer. According to Rodriguez, the fight lasted at least 20 minutes, so he captured several stages of the fight on camera.
As Rodriguez took the pictures, he didn't know who would win: the snake was close to cutting off the heron's breathing.
Ultimately, the heron prevailed, wearing the snake down before finally eating it.
The photographer posted the photos to social media back in February, but it's only now that the images have gone viral. "When I took the picture, I knew it was going to be something special. Everything came together that day: good lighting, close range, lots of action — everything you need," Rodriguez said.
