Light, shadows and silhouettes: the magic of black and white street photography by Guy Cohen (58 photos)
Israeli photographer Guy Cohen pays such attention to light and shadow that magic is born, bringing life to inanimate objects. In his photographs, it seems that the trees are whispering something to the traveler, the lanterns are bowed and ready to follow the cyclist, and the shadows of passers-by literally live their own lives.
Guy Cohen lives in the city of Rishon Lezion, Israel, became interested in photography in his youth, studied photography in Jerusalem. He says that he strives to show people the magical world that is always visible, but remains unnoticed. “I want the viewer to feel something special when they look at my photograph, to make them think,” says Cohen.
He also takes color photographs, inspired by such recognized masters as Alex Webb and Steve McCurry. But Cohen's black-and-white street photographs are especially good. He infuses silhouettes and shadows with energy, causing a surreal mood to creep into scenes and everyday moments to become the focus of a captivating exploration of elements and shapes in an urban backdrop.
