Turkey is a Muslim country, so erotica is not taken seriously there. One could even say that there is "no sex" in this country, just as there was none in the USSR. But that doesn't mean there aren't Turkish photographers working in the nude genre. Photographer Mertkan Hergul is one of them. It's clear he works outside his homeland, as his photographs are very explicit.

There is very little information about the life and work of Mertkan Hergul. This is not surprising, as what he does is frowned upon in his home country. He was born and raised in the city of Tekirdağ, located on the shores of the Sea of Marmara in the European part of the country. Mertkan Hergul began taking photographs while still in school, and his first shots were seascapes.

Over time, Hergul realized that photography was his calling and moved on to portraiture, as well as erotica. However, the artist has remained true to his original passion and continues to create remarkable landscapes. Mertkan Hergul spends most of his time living and working in Europe, where his imagination is unfettered.

The Turkish photographer's erotic photos have been exhibited in France, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Bulgaria. His talent is multifaceted—Mertkan takes excellent black-and-white and color photographs, works in the studio and outdoors, and uses classic film cameras and modern digital equipment.
