AAP magazine has announced the winners of the competition, which featured 25 photographers from 14 countries. "These artists amazed us with their unique take on the timeless art of black and white photography," the organizers said. From striking stories to serene landscapes and powerful portraits, the works on display capture the magic of monochrome.

"No other city has ever impressed me like this. In the middle of it, all those tiny, squeezed-in individuals. I'm in the middle of the Big Apple. Above, daylight, clouds, blue sky, the only hint of color. Below, the reflection of the storefront lights, the noise of the traffic, I feel swallowed alive. Cruelty, filth, each with his own burden. On the Brooklyn Bridge exit ramp, under the bridge, John E. Davis survives.

I spotted him from afar. He reminds me of Australian aborigine. I am skeptical, I walk around him. He has a complex, explosive character. He shouts, talks loudly, all this is frightening. He turns to me. I explain for the thousandth time that I am a photographer and would like to take his portrait. He looks at me questioningly, then loudly declares: "OK!" I take four pictures. Happy Ending."

"My attention was drawn to the gangs of Los Angeles. The woman who headed the non-profit organization to combat crime, Gang Reduction & Youth Development, helped me meet the leaders of White Fence from Boyle Heights. Despite its terrible past, the oldest gang in Los Angeles continues to amaze with its appearance. Her legacy of fierce rivalry dates back to 1900."

The work is created by juxtaposing two photographs. This simple technique aims to create images that are richer and more complex, like the juxtaposition of two musical notes, as suggested by Ralph Gibson's theory of visual overtones. The result is a sense of something unreal or surreal, as in this case, where wildflowers are combined with a mountain.
