He is considered a French impressionist. Lebourg became interested in architecture early on and studied it with the architect Drouin at the Municipal School of Drawing in Rouen. His interest in art grew more and more over time. With Drouin's help, he met the landscape painter Victor Delamarre (1811-1868), who advised and taught him. Having given up architecture, Lebourg decided to attend the Municipal School of Painting and Drawing in Rouen under the direction of Gustave Morin (1809-1886). In 1871 he met the collector Laperlier, thanks to whom he received the post of professor of drawing at the Society of Fine Arts in Algiers. He lived there from 1877 to 1878, creating such works as "Streets of Algiers" (1875; kept at the Academy of Fine Arts, Rouen). In 1877 he gave up teaching in Algeria and returned to Paris. From 1878 to 1880 studied at the workshop of Jean-Paul Laurens. It was at this time that he embraced impressionism. During this period, Lebour became friends with Edgar Degas (1834-1917), Claude Monet and Alfred Sisley (1839-1899). His first exhibition was held at the Salon de la Société des Artistes Français in 1886. In 1889, Lebourg began exhibiting his work at the National Society of Fine Arts and did so regularly from 1891 to 1914. In 1884 -1886. He spent most of his time in Auvergne, where he painted such impressionistic works as Snow in Auvergne (1886; housed at the Academy of Fine Arts, Rouen), in which the river again takes the permanent place of water in his canvases. After living and working in many areas of northern France, Lebourg went to Holland (1895 - 1897) and in 1900, he spent some time in Britain, which confirmed his love for the work of Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1775-1897). 1851), John Constable (1776-1837) and Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788). He continued to work in the style of "luminous" impressionism until 1921, when he was paralyzed due to a stroke.
