A 1939 Superman comic sold at Heritage Auctions for $9.12 million. It was discovered by three brothers cleaning out their late mother's attic.

The brothers, now in their fifties and sixties, stumbled upon the first issue of Superman while cleaning out their late mother's house. She died shortly before the pandemic.

Their mother bought this comic along with several others when she was nine years old. The woman once told her children she had some "rare comics" somewhere, but her family couldn't find them.

The 1939 edition was found under a stack of faded newspapers and was in excellent condition. Experts gave it a 9 out of 10.

Superman No. 1 had an original print run of half a million copies, but intact copies are very difficult to find today, partly because the comic suggested cutting off the cover for use as a poster.
