In Mexico, an employee of the Monterrey Museum of Modern Art smashed a sculpture by the famous contemporary artist Zhivago Duncan.
The incident occurred in front of museum visitor Alan Nerio. He said that he was looking at Duncan's exhibition called "Romantic Primitivism". It consists of sculptures that look like vessels of different sizes. When Nerio was in the hall, the museum employee touched and smashed one of the works. Other caretakers immediately took the offending colleague into the interior.
Duncan uses fragile and worn-out materials to create his sculptures, symbolizing the fragility of the modern world. Prices for his sculptures reach 630 thousand Mexican pesos.
The administration of the Monterrey Museum of Contemporary Art has not yet commented on the incident. It is also unknown how valuable the destroyed work was. It is known that the exhibition "Romantic Primitivism" opened in November 2024 and is scheduled to close in April.
