There's an interesting public gallery of cat art in a New Hampshire alley.

A narrow street leading to the public library in Manchester, New Hampshire is officially known as "Cat Alley." It's been transformed into an open-air gallery of street art dedicated to furry creatures.

The alley off Elm Street in Manchester got its present name from a pioneer cotton mill manufacturer. However, it was more commonly known by the nickname of a man named K. T. Durgin.

While the bronze plaque at the site does not state who he was, it is said that he named the alley after seeing a fight between a pair of stray cats in the small street. For most of its life, Cat Alley was an ordinary street, perhaps notable only for its modest size.

Cat Alley didn't become the street art gallery it is today until a local realtor took an interest in the small alley and started a campaign to revitalize it.

After raising some money and working with local businessmen, he was able to get permission to decorate the alley with cats. He then teamed up with a local artist who had banded together with street artists and painted some murals on a brick wall, creating an urban art gallery. He even installed the aforementioned historical plaque.

Today, this quaint alley is still home to cat-loving street artists and their adorable pets. So any tourist who enjoys art (and cats) should definitely stop by this alley, enjoy the view, and maybe meow softly in delight at the delights of Cat Alley.
