Meet Sergio Ingravalle, a freelance illustrator from Germany. After a five-month journey from Sydney to Beijing, he discovered a new creative path - illustration. So, he created a series of works "Mindshots", and it is thought-provoking.

According to the artist, the name "Mindshots" came from ideas that often pop up during various activities, be it work, conversation, watching a movie, chatting with friends or just boredom in the doctor's office.

1. "We need to share"

Ingravalle said: “Everything changed when I found the courage to travel to the other side of the world to meet famous artists, designers and illustrators. Over the course of four and a half months, I met talent from Australia, Southeast Asia and China. "I learned a lot about creativity and business. When I returned home, I had only one goal - to make a living doing what I love most, illustration."

2. "Destructive criticism"

We wondered if Sergio had any rituals or habits that helped him get into a creative mood. The artist said that over time he developed several rules.

Without delay

“I’m not saying that you need to immediately immerse yourself in the creative process. I start my work small, for example, making sketches, writing down first thoughts about the process.”

Change of workplace

"I work at home, and for me this is the ideal place to create illustrations. But when it comes to generating ideas, difficulties arise. It’s too quiet, too calm. Then I go to any coffee shop, sit down, sketch, write. In "During the pandemic it was difficult, but I realized that I get inspiration from being surrounded by strangers."

Music is a stimulus

"When looking for ideas for my illustrations, I always turn on the same playlist. Sometimes I start with one song for several months (currently "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" by Ryuichi Sakamoto). This seems to help me switch my mind into creativity. Most often I listen to instrumental music, such as movie or video game soundtracks."

4. "Forever"

5. "Airplane mode"

"The idea for the Lemmings illustration came about 10 years ago. I was at a bar with some friends. There were six guys sitting at the next table, and they were all looking at their phones most of the time. It was like a scene from a weird sci-fi movie. I and I myself am susceptible to this. Illustrations help me observe my own addiction. Especially when I started posting my work on the network, monitoring statistics. Subsequently, the illustration “Obsessed” appeared.
