The house-museum of a famous artist in the Kherson region was flooded (11 photos)
After the disaster at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, Polina Raiko’s house in the city of Aleshki was under water. This is an important monument of naive art. Raiko is a self-taught artist.
She began painting the walls and ceilings of the house at the age of 69. One of the most poignant images is a raven over the stove, tormenting a white bird. Neighbor Raiko said that the raven “stole her [Polina’s] child”—her daughter died in a traffic accident in 1994, four years before she started painting.
In 2004, Polina died, her house was bought, a museum was opened there and a foundation was founded in her name. In Kherson, the design of one of the Silpo supermarkets was dedicated to her creativity. The authors of the project are Kharkov architects O.S.A.
