I present to your attention the paintings of the German painter Franz Xavier Winterhalter. Born in 1805, Franz was not only an artist, but also a remarkable lithographer. Franz Xaver Winterhalter gained fame from his portraits of reigning dynasties. He was a favorite of many European courts and created portraits of Empress Eugenie and Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria. The classical Italian school of painting lived and flourished in the 19th century, thanks in part to Franz Xavier Winterhalter. Another master of those times who worked in the same manner was François Joseph Navez
