Artist Luciano Ventrone, born in Rome in 1942, works in the genre of photorealism.
Photorealism is a movement in painting that emerged in the United States in the late 1960s and then spread to Europe in the 1970s. The word "photorealism" was coined by Louis K. Meisel in 1968. Photorealistic painting is impossible without photography. In photorealism, change and movement must be frozen in time, which must be meticulously represented by the artist. Photorealists collected their images and information using cameras and photographs. Typically, photographs were taken on a slide and then transferred to canvas. This was done by projecting a slide or using a grid. The result was a copy of the photograph, but usually much larger than the original.
