Nita Engle / Nita_Engle is one of America's leading artists, born in 1926 in Michigan. She is well known for her watercolor landscapes, which are a means of expressing her incurable wanderlust. Her paintings range from Africa to Alaska, from Thailand and Tahiti to Italy, from Indonesia to her home on the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Her unique watercolor technique was developed through experimentation. Engle says, “The fun thing about painting in watercolor is that it moves on paper, unlike oil.”
Engle studied painting at the Art Institute of Chicago for four years with affiliated studies at Northern Michigan University and Roosevelt University. She worked as an art director for an advertising agency in Chicago before going full-time as a watercolor illustrator for major magazines.
