Chasing away the darkness. Landscapes where the night is not colorless

American photographers Roeland West and Paul Heran have learned to control light and shadow at night. Their collaborative project, "Highlight," is a new frontier in astrophotography. They built a drone equipped with LED lights and now go on night photography hunts.

The photographers travel the world, from the white beaches of California to the thermal lakes of Iceland, bringing back new, captivating images of the night.

"Every location we shoot is special in its own way," says Eran. "Wherever we go, we find unique colors and landscapes."

"Before we start shooting, we think through the concept of the shots and decide what we want to achieve in the end. "For the object we've spotted to look really cool, the moon has to be at just the right angle."

The guys don't just use drones to take photos, of course, but when they use this technology, they work quickly. The drone's battery only lasts 12 minutes. That's why everything has to be calculated in advance.

"Which trip did I enjoy the most? Iceland, of course," West recalls. "One day, we spent the entire day photographing this unique region and were exhausted when we sat on a large boulder on the ocean shore. Suddenly, Paul gasped and put his hand on my shoulder. I turned toward him and saw something absolutely stunning. Graceful green streaks spreading across the dark sky. The Northern Lights! We grabbed our equipment and started photographing like crazy, as if we hadn't been on our feet for almost 24 hours."
