The most famous mysterious crop circles in history

The astonishing and seemingly unexplained appearance of giant crop circles remains one of the unsolved mysteries to this day. Some attribute their appearance to "mowing demons," others to alien intervention. They can appear overnight and haunt for centuries.

The earliest known mention of mysterious crop circles dates back to 1678. A circle mysteriously appeared in a field in Hertfordshire overnight. The pamphlet reporting the strange event was published on August 22, 1678, under the title "The Mowing Devil, or Strange News from Hertfordshire."

The illustration depicts a demon carefully cutting a circle in a field with its scythe. The text reads: "This is a true story of a farmer who bargained with a poor mower for the cutting of three and a half acres of oats. The mower asked too much, whereupon the farmer swore the devil would mow them sooner than he. And so it happened that very night. The oats crop seemed to be on fire, but the next morning they were found so neatly mown by the devil, or some infernal spirit, that no mortal could have done the like."

This enormous and intricate creation was discovered in a wheat field on August 12, 2001, in Milk Hill, Wiltshire. To this day, it remains the largest crop circle ever made. It consists of 409 circles and has a diameter of 267 meters.

This circle, depicting the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Earth, and the orbits of Jupiter, appeared in Longwood Warren, Hampshire, on June 22, 1995. Interestingly, this circular arrangement of the planets was observed on the day the Wright brothers proved that man could fly, November 6, 1903, and again on July 11, 1971, during the Mariner 9 mission to Mars.

One of the most suspicious circles appeared in the sands of the Middle East. No traces or other signs of human intervention were found there.

This highly symbolic drawing was discovered on July 17, 1991, in Barbary Castle. It depicts the creation of the universe with three light sources, also known as the Holy Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The drawing includes the Tree of Life from the Book of Genesis.

The British calculated that the area of each circle is 31,680 square feet (2,943 square meters), which corresponds to the Greek numerology of Jesus Christ. The sum of all the digits is divided by 3,168, resulting in 6,660, which links this number to the Number of the Beast.

A circle with a very complex design appeared in a field near Barbary Castle. Its diameter is 150 feet. The image appeared to be a coded interpretation of the first ten digits of pi—3.141592654. This astonished the researchers. The circle is formed by ten angular segments with radial transitions. The decimal point in pi is represented by a dot in the center, and the tenth digit is correctly rounded.

Another complex structure in the fields is known as the "Julia Set." It appeared in the field opposite Stonehenge in July 1996 and received this name because it represents a complex computer fractal of the same name. Musicians refer to it as a treble clef, while marine biologists refer to it as a cross-section of a mollusk shell spiral.

The "Julia Set" was spotted by a pilot flying over the field at 6:15 PM. He had previously flown over the same area at 5:30 PM with a passenger, a doctor, who was taking photographs, and no circles were seen at that time. Stonehenge guards also confirmed that there had been no circles in the field earlier that day. A woman claimed to have stopped by the road and witnessed the circle's creation. She also said that a taxi driver and a passenger were there with her, and they watched as the circle was drawn in the field beneath a swirling cloud.

When aeronauts were flying over a wheat field near Reisting in southern Germany, they noticed a formation of mown circles. Christoph Huttner claims he had nothing to do with the strange pattern that appeared in his field, but at the same time refuses to believe it was the work of aliens and blames children. The circle is almost 76 meters in diameter. It's unlikely that neighboring children could have mowed such a pattern.

This rectangular formation in a field with a face resembling the famous Martian face appeared in August 2001 near the Chilbolton Radio Observatory in England. There were no signs of human intervention or instrumentation around the perimeter of this formation. Nearby, another formation appeared with complex binary code in the same format as the message humanity sent into space in 1974.

Many crop circles are the work of pranksters using beams and ropes. However, the origin of a significant number of them remains unexplained. Furthermore, many of them carry cryptic messages. Some claim that this is how alien life forms attempt to communicate with us. Others believe it is the spirits of Earth trying to be heard. Everyone has their own interpretation, but the question remains open.
