The pristine beauty of Africa in amazing aerial photographs

Photographer Zach Seckler offers a fresh perspective on the African savannah in a series of aerial photographs from Botswana, capturing Africa's pristine beauty. Viewed from above, no more than five hundred feet above the ground, the saltwater pools, vegetation, and animals appear magical. This is why Zach's photographs are so different from the thousands of familiar savannah landscapes captured by other photographers. In this issue, we've collected unique images of the African savannah through Zach Seckler's lens.







The idea for this series of photographs came to Zack completely by chance. While in Botswana on another project, the photographer had some free time and asked his client to show him the local sights. The client offered Zack a ride over the savannah. Zack was so impressed by what he saw that he decided to return and create a series of landscapes from above. (Photo: Zack Seckler)

All images were taken from an ultralight aircraft at an altitude of approximately 150 meters, so the images in them represent a completely different perspective than hundreds of other photographs of well-known African landscapes.



Thanks to the unique perspective, objects invisible to those on the ground are revealed in exquisite detail from an airplane.



"When you're flying so low above the ground, you have the ability to maneuver—it was like gliding through a painting," the photographer described his experience.



Zack Seckler was born in Boston and learned his craft at Syracuse University.



He later moved to New York City and began a career as a photojournalist. His work can be seen in publications such as Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire, and New York Magazine.



According to the photographer, inspiration comes to him in a variety of moments—from happy moments on the streets of New York to admiring the paintings of de Chirico and Magritte.
