This video demonstrates a unique technique for creating ceramic tableware using living leaves as the main decorative element. The artist applies a fresh leaf to a layer of wet clay and carefully rolls it, transferring the smallest details—from veins to the natural curves of the rim—to the surface. After removing the leaf, a perfect, natural impression remains in the clay, transforming an ordinary plate into an exclusive work of art, capturing the beauty of the forest in a solid material.
The direct impression method allows for maximum detail, almost impossible to replicate by hand with tools. Leaves with a distinct texture and coarse veins (such as burdock, maple, or nasturtium) are best suited for this type of work. After shaping, the plate is fired and glazed, making the natural pattern durable and suitable for everyday use.
