The traditional hands of the giant three-meter clock installed in the international terminal of Schiphol Airport have replaced human hands. Passengers flying out of Amsterdam can watch how, inside the dial, a man in a blue work uniform uses a brush and sponge to control time. This “hyperrealistic representation of time” is nothing less than a 12-hour video performance. The performance artist, who paints every minute, has at his disposal a red bucket of water for washing his hands and brushes, and the chronometer itself is enclosed in a stainless steel box that is attached to the ceiling. The combination of a blue uniform, a red bucket and a yellow sponge is an homage to the famous Dutch artist Piet Mondrian.
