Every day these 8-meter statues pass through each other, symbolizing a tragic love story
“Man and Woman” is an 8-meter moving steel sculpture created by Georgian sculptor Tamara Kvesitadze. Located on the coast of the city of Batumi, it symbolizes the Muslim guy Ali and the Georgian princess Nino, the heroes of the famous novel by the Azerbaijani writer Kurban Said ("Ali and Nino", 1937). The tragic story ends with the separation of lovers with the arrival of Soviet troops on the territory of the country.
According to the author's idea, every evening the sculptures begin to move, merging in a short embrace before going their separate ways. After 10 minutes the movement stops altogether, and so on until the next evening.
