Jim Reed was born in 1961 in Albany, Georgia. He was raised by his mother and grandmother in Springfield, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He took his first photograph of indignant nature at the age of eight, and already at the age of 11 he made a home video of a hurricane. After graduating from university, Jim worked as a writer and screenwriter, coming up with stories for everything from music videos to commercials. He even signed a 2-year contract with Warner Brothers. But nature took its toll and Jim moved to Kansas, where he continued his childhood dream. Mr. Reed has given more than 20 years to the elements. Jim Reed's track record includes visiting the epicenter of a dozen hurricanes.
