Terrifying beauty: a photographer transforms abandoned places into dark and erotic fantasies (25 photos)
Boston-based Karen Jerzyk began working in portrait photography in 2009. The self-taught photographer, of course, didn't have the money to afford a studio, so she had to get creative when choosing locations for her shoots. Thus began her love of shooting in abandoned places, which even got her arrested once.
"It was the best thing that ever happened to me," Karen admits.
However, Karen felt her photographs still "missed something." In 2011, Karen's father died unexpectedly, sending her into a battle with immense stress and depression. But through this loss, she finally found her voice in art.
"My photographs have become emotional. They are a direct reflection of what's going on inside me. Now I'm satisfied and proud of my creations," says Karen.
She calls herself "an introverted and painfully weird photographer" and, judging by the titles of some of her works, often draws inspiration from thrillers and horror films.
