Underwater project (23 photos)
It's always fascinating to see what's happening beneath the surface of the water. Looking at Mark Tipple's photographs, you're amazed by the detail of this "other world." Mark was a renowned documentary photographer in the past. He used the ocean as an escape, a kind of escapism from his projects. He developed a passion for underwater photography, capturing what was happening beneath the surface on a summer day.
"Watching surfers, I wondered what happens when we dive, or rather, what it looks like from a different perspective. It's hard to explain, but I've always wondered about it. I used to surf with a small camera and a housing attached to my head. It worked well, but my neck ached from the strain of diving and trying to get the shot at the right angle. Ultimately, I took a new approach to photographing what I saw—that is, I stepped off the surfboard and became a bystander."
