Flower power: the dark side of pit bulls (21 photos)

Pit bulls are traditionally (and often quite rightly) considered extremely aggressive and dangerous dogs. French photographer Sophie Gamand decided to show their brighter side by capturing a series of dog portraits titled "Flower Power."







Sophie Gamand photographed all of her subjects at animal shelters.

"In my opinion, the idea that these dogs are considered psychopaths is a myth," says Sophie Gamand.



However, she admits that at first, she had a hard time overcoming her fear of these dogs.



Gradually, Sophie Gamand managed to overcome her mistrust—even though she was attacked by a large dog as a child.



"The more time I spent with model dogs, the more comfortable I felt. Every dog ​​is different, and the pit bulls I met in shelters were amazing and loving animals," Sophie Gamand now says.



She hopes people can overcome their preconceptions about pit bulls.
