Stylish London couples through the lens of Italian photographer Carlotta Cardana (10 photos)
When Italian Carlotta Cardana moved to London a few years ago, she became intrigued by the contemporary London Mod scene. Young people dressed in the style of the 1950s and 1960s strolled the streets of the British capital. They dressed and acted like their grandparents, who belonged to the British Mod subculture.
Carlotta was struck by the young people's unique style and wanted to get to know them better. Thus began her photo project "Mod Couples," which later won an award at the Sony World Photography Awards.

"I was struck by young people who decided to dedicate themselves to an era they didn't belong to," the photographer admitted.
She was interested in so-called mod couples specifically because she wanted to understand how these stylish young men and women influenced and complemented each other. While working on the project, she met many interesting young people under 25.

The British Mod subculture flourished in the mid-1960s. Young people who embraced this movement favored the Italian "mod" style of clothing, shaped the street fashion of the time, and loved to ride scooters. They were a kind of British equivalent of the Soviet "stilyagas," but while you won't find any more stilyagas in the former Soviet Union, mods still "saunter down the Broadways" of British cities.
