Nude Surrealism in Photographs by AnaHell
To express their ideas, surrealists use a wide variety of objects and techniques. In a joint project by Spanish artist AnaHell and photographer Nathalie Dreier, the primary medium is the naked human body.
In the surreal world, human figures are depicted in unusual interiors and landscapes, often in very unusual poses.
(Caution! Nudity)
The project, called Red Rubber Road, was created under the motto: "Flesh is fickle, dreams come and go, and reality is just a game." According to AnaHell, the world is not limited to what we see around us. Since childhood, the artist has wondered whether she lives in two worlds, only vaguely similar to each other.
The Spanish artist's goal was to create a different, alternative reality, subject to a different logic and different concepts of beauty and harmony. The works in the series utilize not only unusual landscapes but also images of mythical creatures, such as centaurs.
The artist is also inspired by images of animals, such as cats. According to the artist, their flexible bodies, clad in leopard print tights, acquire a special grace.
AnaHell believes that the human body can tell any story; all it takes is placing it in a specific environment and adding a few details.
According to the artist, she doesn't prepare for shoots in advance, but works spontaneously, driven by emotions and sensations. She can be inspired not only by unusual locations but also by the most simple objects we tend to overlook.
To gain a dose of impressions and create something unusual, AnaHell and Natalie Dreyer traveled quite far from their hometowns. For example, one of the most striking works was created in the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean.
The artist and photographer's collaborative project is far from complete. The first works in the Red Rubber Road series were created back in 2011, and their subjects were the artists themselves.
