The photographer removed smartphones and tablets from the photos, look what happened (9 photos)
Are you reading this on a portable device? There's a good chance you are. Now imagine what you would look like if this device suddenly disappeared. Lonely, secluded? A little crazy? Perhaps next to a person who is being ignored? As we become increasingly consumed by the screens we carry around with us, even when in the company of friends and family, the hunched posture, engrossed in our phones, seems increasingly normal.
American photographer Eric Pickersgill created a series of photographs called "Deleted" to remind us of how strange this pose is. In each portrait, electronic devices were "edited out" (removed before the photo was taken, from the people who were using them) to make people look at their hands or the empty space between their hands, often ignoring the beautiful surroundings or opportunities for human connection . The results are a little sad and creepy, and perhaps a reminder to put our phones away.
