Master of the Russian school of landscape Yuri Kugach (30 photos)
Spirituality, simplicity and a heartfelt appeal to the village are the main features of the works of the patriarch of the Russian school of painting, Yuri Petrovich Kugach.
This painter comes from the city of Suzdal. He was born on March 8, 1917 in an ordinary working-class family. The boy fell in love with drawing from the moment he went to school. And from that time on, his hobby occupied all his thoughts and free time.

No one in the family had such talents. Therefore, the parents did not particularly encourage their son’s hobby. But they didn’t interfere either. Therefore, they did not stop Yura when, after finishing his seven-year school, he left for Moscow to fulfill his dream.
A 15-year-old teenager entered the Moscow Technical School “IZO” named after 1905. Then he studied at the Surikov State Art Institute, after successful completion of which Yuri entered graduate school.
Even when he was a student, the artist became interested in the topic of Russian history. After the war, another important topic was added to it - the military. My love for landscapes began after moving to the village of Maly Gorodok. The nature of the Tver lands became an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Kugach.
The artist’s works are not just paintings, but stories about life, people, their dreams and suffering. Which are permeated by boundless love for their country and people.
The work of the master, who died in 2013, was continued by his son, grandchildren, and numerous students. Yuri Petrovich's works are presented in the Tretyakov Gallery, art museums in different cities and private collections both in our country and abroad.
