A talented person is talented in everything. But history, with very rare exceptions, proves that even geniuses are usually geniuses in one area. You are either a physicist or a lyricist. This man happened to be in both capacities.

The most famous achievement of the American inventor Samuel Morse was the electromagnetic writing telegraph and its code. But he began to engage in inventions already as a mature man, in the second half of his life. And in his youth, Samuel Finley Breeze, distinguished by his curiosity and restlessness, was completely indifferent to science. He was attracted to art, namely painting.

So much so that at the age of 20, his parents sent their son to Britain to study at the Royal Academy of Arts. After the course of study, returning to the States, he was surprised to realize that they considered him an English artist. And in principle they are not particularly interested in painting. For the next ten years, Morse lived the life of a traveling artist - not a very enviable one. However, it was during this period that he created a series of the most famous portraits in his work.

In 1825, Morse founded and headed the National Academy of Design in New York. But, despite the achievements, he did not stop there and continued to study himself. Why did he travel to Europe several times?

What is noteworthy is that the artist’s classic works, for example, “The Judgment of Jupiter,” turned out to be not particularly in demand. But the public happily ordered portraits, from which the painter was able to earn a good fortune.

Since 1832, Morse's interests changed. He became interested in electricity and took up science. But he remained in history not only as a unique inventor of his kind, but also as a talented artist.
