Vintage packaging of soaps and detergents (260 photos)
This collection consists of countless varieties of soap packaging materials for various purposes, developed by advertising agencies, who often based their designs on mainstream art or took inspiration from, for example, movie stars.
At the beginning of its history, Dobbelman already attracted famous advertisers. For example, the company collaborated with the Amsterdam consulting firm De la Mar back in 1880. The competitive soap and detergent industry has encouraged the development of marketing concepts expressed through unique names given to soap brands.
Important 20th-century fine art movements can be recognized from Dobbelmann's packaging and promotional materials. Posters with Art Nouveau designs, 1920s stickers with Art Deco geometric patterns, and wrappers inspired by pre-war Hollywood. The collection gives an insight into how soap was produced at the factory.
