The ironic world of Tony Kelly – a genius of advertising photography
Photographer Tony Kelly is often called a modern-day Helmut Newton. This is not surprising, as his work is truly close in spirit to the master's masterpieces. They are cinematic, stylish, sexy, ironic—the list goes on and on. Furthermore, Kelly's photographs are universally accessible and appeal to both sophisticated contemporary art connoisseurs and casual viewers.
Tony Kelly was born in 1975 in Dublin, the capital of Ireland. He began his photography career early, but never even considered working in the fashion industry. Kelly became a reporter, shooting in conflict zones. He traveled the world, visiting Afghanistan, Rwanda, the Middle East, and South America. Sometimes Kelly was on the brink of death, but he always completed his assignments.
Then Tony grew tired of the smell of gunpowder, blood on the sand, and racing in bumpy SUVs. He vacationed in Barcelona, capturing the beauty of the sun-drenched city and girls on the beach. A new perspective on photography captivated the young photographer, and he moved to Los Angeles to live and work.
In California, Kelly successfully entered the world of fashion photography and realized it was his thing. Since then, Tony Kelly has never fallen out of fashion. His images are incredibly popular and can be seen on the pages of the most popular glossy magazines.
The creative director of British GQ magazine once said the following about Kelly:
"Kelly has achieved a distinctive style in an era when it seems everyone thinks they can be a photographer. He brings life to every publication he shoots for. He is a bold and talented photographer." To say that Tony Kelly is one of a kind is an understatement."
