Artist Arthur John Elsley (1860-1952) (103 works)
Arthur John Elsley (Arthur John Elsley) was born in 1860 and at the age of 14 he became a student at the South Kensington School of Art.
The artist's first exhibition took place in 1878. He painted children and animals. The popularity of this genre was caused by the fact that in those days in Victorian England, alas, there was a high infant mortality rate and the middle strata of the population sought to capture their children... as a keepsake.
The cult of family, comfort, tenderness, warmth, humor, animals - all this is reflected in the artist’s work.
Died in 1952.
