Collection of works by the artist Luigi Premazzi (1814 -1891).
Luigi Ossipovich Premazzi (1814 - Milan - 1891 - Istanbul) was born and studied in Milan with G. Miliar and E. Corrodi. In 1839 he moved to Russia, where he had many students, including Prince I. Gagarin in 1840. He soon attracted the attention of Emperor Nicholas II and became one of the most popular masters among the Russian aristocracy of the mid-19th century. Since 1851, together with K. Ukhtomsky and E. Gau, he worked on a series of watercolors with images of the Hermitage halls commissioned by the court. From 1854 he became an academician at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, and from 1861 a professor of watercolor painting. Since 1854, Premazzi traveled widely, especially in the southern provinces of Crimea. He lived for three years in the Caucasus, where he created works for Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolaevich. Premazzi is known as an excellent teacher. Between 1865 and 1867 he taught watercolor painting at the Pavlovsk Institute. Luigi Premazzi's works are presented in collections in Russia, Vienna, Paris and London.
