Evgeny Ivanovich Charushin was born on October 29 (November 11), 1901 in Vyatka in the family of the provincial architect Ivan Apollonovich Charushin, one of the prominent architects of the Urals. Evgeny Ivanovich Charushin became known primarily as a talented artist and animal painter. The love and warmth with which he portrayed animals brought him truly worldwide recognition. However, it was not only his ability to realistically depict the world around him on canvas that made him famous, but also his unconditional talent as a writer. Evgeny Charushin's stories are distinguished by childlike spontaneity and a fresh perspective. With simple and vivid images, he conveys to young readers the magical world of birds and animals.

Charushin's talent goes back far to childhood. From the first years of his life, the writer spent a lot of time with hunters, craftsmen, and foresters. The writer’s mother, Lyubov Alexandrovna, instilled in her son a passionate love for the natural world. Together with her, he worked in the garden and looked after the animals.

The experience gained in childhood helped Charushin acquire the skill of an extraordinary artist. He could convey the habits of animals down to the smallest detail. Laconically and at the same time succinctly, Evgeniy Ivanovich depicted a ruffled crow, an orphaned bear cub and many other vivid images. Being a master of fine art, Charushin could not help but use such a tool as the word. What he created so many paintings and sketches about took on a verbal form, and the artist’s skill was harmoniously complemented by his writing talent.

He conveyed the childish delight that Charushin experienced in front of nature throughout his life in his stories. “What kind of animal?”, “Fisherman Bear”, “Quail” - these and many other works help to instill in children a sense of compassion, love for nature and responsibility in relations with the outside world.

From the first years of life, Evgeny Charushin's stories accompany children on a wonderful journey to a country called Nature. Fascinating texts, accompanied by talented illustrations, awaken bright feelings in young readers.

Evgeny Ivanovich Charushin died in Leningrad on February 18, 1965. He was buried at the Bogoslovskoye cemetery.
